EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Superstar Voice Actor "Jaxon Mercey" Talks Voicing "Ryder" In Nickelodeon's "Paw Patrol", What He's Up To Today, His Favorite Things About Canada & So Much More With Standish...

Standish913.com has been blessed to do an exclusive interview with...

"JAXON MERCEY"!

Let's get into some exclusive questions...

STANDISH: Let's start off strong. What inspired you to become a voice actor?

JAXON: When I was about five years old, I was a very outgoing, happy-go-lucky kid who loved talking and being silly. As for how I seriously got into acting, it was all thanks to my dad. With his creative background, he came up with the idea to put me into acting, and I instantly fell in love with it.

STANDISH: With that being said, you voiced "Ryder" in Nickelodeon's "Paw Patrol", tell us how you landed this amazing role...

JAXON: Landing the role of Ryder was absolutely crazy, I couldn’t believe it! Like all my other opportunities, it started with my amazing agent letting me know I’d get to audition for the lead role in PAW Patrol. Just having the chance to try out for Ryder was incredible, so I knew I had to work extra hard to stand out. I spent a lot of time studying the character, watching how previous voice actors portrayed Ryder. My goal was to capture the essence of the role while still making it my own. I practiced tirelessly, blending familiarity with my own touch, and thankfully, it all paid off.

STANDISH: Tell us about this award you received.. 2017 Winner, Joey Award – “Best Leading Voice‑Over Actor” for Paw Patrol. How did it feel?

JAXON: This was really special, not only was it my first award show, but it was also my first time visiting Vancouver. My dad and I decided to make a trip out of it, turning the whole experience into an adventure. And then, to top it all off, I won. It was surreal. I’ll remember that moment for the rest of my life. The excitement, the joy, the sheer disbelief, it was one of the best and most unforgettable experiences I’ve ever had.

STANDISH: You voiced "Prince Wednesday" in PBS's "Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood", can you tell us more?

JAXON: Prince Wednesday was an awesome character to play and one of my first big roles. It was amazing being a part of the show that helps kids to learn in fun and musical ways. It taught me so much about being a voice actor and how to succeed further in my career!

STANDISH: What’s your process for getting into character when recording?

JAXON: I like to warm up by reading the script a few times while visualizing myself as the character. For Prince Wednesday, I would imagine his royal energy and for Ryder I would think about being a selfless leader while reading the lines. I think it was also very important for me to be fully prepared prior to the day of recording by constantly reading over the script and practicing my craft to make sure it was easy for me to just hop right into character.

STANDISH: Which character has been the most fun or meaningful to voice? Why?

JAXON: The Character that was most meaningful to voice for me, had to be Ryder from Paw Patrol. This was for sure my biggest role so far of my career, and my only lead role as well. Voicing Ryder really improved my voice work the most I think over the years, and it really taught me how to be a real professional in this work. I totally loved all of the characters I played, but Playing Ryder has to take the cake for being the most meaningful role for me.

STANDISH: How does it feel to be an inspiration in the children’s television community?

JAXON: It's honestly crazy and feels amazing. Knowing that I may have helped create a positive impact on kids is one of the coolest feelings ever! I love hearing stories from parents about how much their kids love the show, it's really awesome to hear.

STANDISH: Can you share a funny or surprising moment from a recording session?

JAXON: This isn't a very happy moment, but it was definitely crazy! After a recording session for Daniel Tiger's Neighbourhood, I accidentally got my hand caught in the door leaving the recording booth, which ended up breaking 3 of my fingers and needing stitches. It was such a freak accident and definitely something I'll never forget. Lol :)

STANDISH: What's on Jaxon's playlist?

JAXON: I absolutely love music, so here's my recent top 5 favourite songs:

- Do I (Where We Are) -Cherub

- Fancy Footwork-Chromeo

- I don't like it, I love it (feat. Robin Thicke & Verdine White) - Flo Rida

- No Broke Boys - Disco lines & Tinashe

- tell you straight - jigitz

STANDISH: Being from Canada, what's your 3 favorite things about it?

JAXON: #1 favourite thing has got to be the people, everyone is so nice and friendly, I've met so many amazing people while living here

#2 Is going to be the hockey and sports programs! I grew up playing hockey and sports, so to have such easy access to elite programs is awesome!

#3 Is gonna be Oakville, Ontario and the city of Toronto! I absolutely love living here because there is so much opportunity and so many things to see and do with great people.

STANDISH: If you could pick 1 role, any role to voice, what would it be?

JAXON: If I could pick one role to voice right now, it would have to be the character Mark from Invincible. I have always been a huge fan of superheros and this show is just fantastic, so to play the main character in a superhero show would be my dream, so that's going to be my choice.

STANDISH: What can we look forward to in the future from you?

JAXON: More voice work and on screen acting for sure! I'd love to branch out into many kinds of roles and keep continuing to grow my skills!

STANDISH: Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?

JAXON: 5 years from now I will hopefully be pursuing my dream to be a full time actor and continuing to grow in the creative space. I would also love to be living in either Los Angeles or Toronto as those are the best locations I think to pursue an acting career.

STANDISH: Who are some of your mentors?

JAXON: Some people I really look up to include my parents, Brad Pitt, Seth Rogan, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and James Franco.

STANDISH: Top 3 things on your bucket list?
