"DAVID HOWARD THORNTON"!
David Howard Thornton is a NYC based actor but originally from Huntsville, AL. He is known for work in stage, film, and voice over. He is best known for his roles as Grandpa Who in the 1st- 5th national tours of "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas: The Musical", the voice of Shizoku and others in the video game "Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom", various roles on the animated series "The Bravest Knight" and "Super Wings", The Joker in the YouTube series "Nightwing Escalation", Tim in the film "The Dark Offerings", the titular character in "The Mean One", and, most notably, as Art the Clown in the films "Terrifier" and "Terrifier 2." He will also be seen in the upcoming film and "Stream" and "The Dead Place."
Let's get into this KILLER exclusive...
STANDISH: Let's start this off strong! I heard of a possible "Terrifier 3", can you tell us anything more?
DAVID: As of the time I am writing this, I have not seen the script, but do know the main concept behind part 3, and it is a concept that I know horror fans will be extremely excited about. I will say that Damien plans for Art to be a lot darker and creepier this time around and other character like Sienna, Johnathan, and Victoria will be returning as well. We also have a much bigger budget this time, and have been given the green light to go as crazy as we want... so hold on to your butts!
STANDISH: Tell us a little about your overall mission -
DAVID: It's pretty simple, really. I just want to entertain people, and hopefully make them scream or laugh at times. I realized this during my internship in the public school system while I was obtaining my degree in Elementary Education in college a year after my mother passed away from cancer. I discovered I got more fulfillment out of entertaining my students rather than teaching them and decided to pursue this path in life after I graduated instead. I have never regretted that decision.
STANDISH: How does it feel to be such an inspiration in the Horror community?
DAVID: Pretty surreal, actually. I still have not wrapped my mind around it after 5 years since the release of Terrifier. I still see myself as the shy geek from Alabama that got lucky and feel a bit of imposter syndrome sharing space with the icons I grew up watching. I'm just grateful to be where I am and am thrilled that so many enjoy what we have done so far!
STANDISH: My 8 year old absolutely loves your Art the clown role, she wants to know how long did it take to make the "Terrifier" movies?
DAVID: Too long! Ha ha! The first two films took a few years each off and on to make either for budgetary reasons or due to Covid. We didn't try to rush those films out either but wanted to take our time making the types of films we wanted to see ourselves.
STANDISH: What can we look forward to in the future from you?
DAVID: Well, other than production starting on Terrifier 3 later this year, I have two other films that will hopefully release this fall. One is called "The Dead Place" and I actually get to talk in it. I play a pretty slimy character in that is one of the main antagonists of the film. The other is called "Stream" which I made with much of the Terrifier 2 team and it features several other legends from the horror world like Felissa Rose, Danielle Harris, Dee Wallace, Daniel Roebuck, Jeffrey Combs, Tony Todd, and several others!
STANDISH: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
DAVID: Hopefully still working steadily in this industry and making more Terrifier films. I'd also LOVE to play the Joker as well in some DC production.
STANDISH: Who are some of your mentors?
DAVID: I have several, but the one I like to give the most credit to for where I am as Art is my dear friend Stefan Karl, who many might remember as Robbie Rotten from "Lazy Town." I was fortunate enough to be his understudy for 5 years as the Grinch on the tour of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas: The Musical." Stefan was a master at clowning and physical comedy and helped me fine tune my skills in that area and gave me great advice when I was first cast as Art. I truly miss him.
STANDISH: During COVID, we all faced struggles, what was one of your main struggles?
DAVID: Staying sane in an insane situation. Luckily, I had various distraction such as videogames and movies, as well as platforms like Zoom that allowed me to stay in contact with all of my friends. Plus, I was still able to work on projects as restrictions were slowly lifted (most notably finishing Terrifier 2. I don't miss those days at all)!
STANDISH: Where can fans find your work?
DAVID: Most of my work can be seen on various platforms like Amazon Prime, Tubi, YouTube etc.
STANDISH: Anything you'd like to include?
DAVID: I just want to say a big thank you to all the fans, especially the backers for my various projects. If it weren't for all of you going out and seeing Terrifier 2 in theaters, we wouldn't be where we are now. Y'all rock!
