Standish913.com has been blessed to do an interview with...
"Malik Pollux"!
Here's our official interview...
What is your name?
My name is Davone Carter, but my stage name is Malik Pollux.
Where are you from? Your age?
I'm from Plainfield, NJ & I'm 23 years old.
What do you do?
Personally I would say I do a lot whether that be me making and designing clothes, shooting videos, editing, etc. However my main focus and passion at the moment is Mixing, Writing, & Recording music.
Tell us a little about your company/brand -
I'm an independent artist & the founder of my clothing brand VITO which is a work in progress currently at the moment.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
As an established Independent artist with my own music collective, touring and doing shows around the world enforcing change and inspiring the next group of artists to come after me. Also, I see myself having a dope upcoming clothing brand as well.
Who are some of your mentors?
I personally wouldn't say I have any mentors yet, rather inspirations, people who inspire me to do this on my own. People like Saba, Russ, Smino, etc. just to name a few. I look at myself as my own mentor because without my drive to do music, I wouldn't be here. Although, there are close connections who gave me great insight while along my journey and will always thank them for the little gems I received.
What are you currently working on?
At the moment I've been working on an upcoming project that has been in the works for about two years now on and off, which I plan on trying to finish and release sometime in the coming months. I don't have an exact date or time in mind, but I do feel confident it will be done within the year. On top of that I have a few singles and smaller projects with other artist friends in the works to be released later in the year as well. We'll see how things align in the future.
During COVID, we all faced struggles, what was one of your main struggles?
The biggest struggle for me would have to be when I was in my last semester of college when covid first struck. That changed the whole dynamic of my college life and my life in general. I was just getting into music and starting to get my feet wet and build up a presence as an upcoming artist. I had a lot of setbacks as far as work and my drive to finish school was diminishing slowly in the process as well. All I really wanted to work on at the time was music over actual class assignments and during the lockdown phase I had my own bedroom setup so I had nothing but time to work on my artistry. However, during this time my mental health wasn't the best either so I had to find a balance between the struggle of finishing school and trying to become the best version of myself musically. So, inside of all the minor setbacks I could say I actually gained a bigger drive for music as well, since it made it a lot harder for someone (me) who didn't really have a social media presence. I had to learn how to thrive using the resources available to me at the moment and still do.
Where can fans find your music?
You can find my music on almost all music platforms you can think of by searching my name "Malik Pollux". Most of my older songs are on soundcloud if anyone is ever curious how I sounded starting out back 3 years ago.
Anything you'd like to include?
For any other upcoming artist whether that be music, djing, designing, whatever. Always move in a way of love and take your time and trust the process. No one ever made it in a day and everyone has their own timeline for when they'll succeed, you just gotta want it bad.
