INTERVIEW - Podcaster "Steve Strout" Shows No Fear In The Horror Industry...

Standish913.com has been blessed to do an interview with...

"Steve Strout"!

Steve Strout is a New England born and raised transplant to the PNW, who's dabbled in many aspects of entertainment including his long running site (thestevestrout.com), running a mini comic con, and booking and promoting stand-up comedy. Steve is currently successfully running "The Steve & Crypto Show" podcast!

Here's our official interview...

What is your name?

Steve Strout

Where are you from? Your age?

I am 42 years old. I'm originally from Connecticut, but have lived in Washington State for almost 18 years in a little town on the Olympic Peninsula called Port Townsend.

What do you do?

I am a podcaster.

Tell us a little about your company/brand -

My podcast, of which I co-host with my good friend Caleb Lowery aka Crypto Zoo, is a pop culture news and conversation show, with an emphasis on the horror genre.

We discuss current news and events while featuring interviews with great guests, including award winning actor Doug Jones (The Shape of Water, Hellboy, Hocus Pocus), popular YouTube personality Jade The Libra, LA Guns guitar player Ace Von Johnson, and Night Of The Living Dead (my all time favorite horror film) star Russ Streiner. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

We are really in to promoting other creators, preferably that fall under the pop culture and nerdy umbrella, but if a project is cool, then we wanna hear about it.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I hope The Steve & Crypto Show is still going strong. Ideally I'd like to make it a main source of income, but with so many great shows out there, it's tough. One can dream, right?

Who are some of your mentors?

I'm honestly not sure I've had any "mentors". I guess there are other creators or performers that have influenced and inspired me. People like Kevin Smith, Chris Jericho, and as of late, I've been taking lots of notes on horror writer/director Mick Garris' interview technique via his podcast.

Ok I thought of someone I can consider a mentor of sorts. (I'll keep this short as possible) So a few years back I booked and promoted stand up comedy. I had a regular comedian named Susan Jones (a hilarious Seattle based and currently outta Vegas performer) who I grew a great friendship with, and learned a ton about not only the entertainment business, but also my own self confidence and ability to express myself. I think those lessons are what really give me that drive to push myself out of my comfort zone and perform on the podcast or network with guests and the such.

What are you currently working on?

Right now I'm working on and planning a series of episodes featuring Horror Movie Hosts. If you're not familiar what a Horror Host is, great examples are Elvira the Mistress of The Dark, Svengoolie, and Joe Bob Briggs. Sadly none of them will be on the Steve & Crypto Show any time soon. I am a huge fan, almost to the point of obsession, of horror hosts to the point that I volunteer my time to help a host called Igorro with his social media.

Since you're in K.C., here's a little tidbit. Your region had a legendary horror host in the 80's named Crematia Mortem, who was a big deal there in her days. (Though I believe she was based in Kansas City, Missouri.... Close enough, right?).

During COVID, we all faced struggles, what was one of your main struggles?

I can honestly say COVID probably did more good for The Steve & Crypto Show. We had been discussing starting a podcast for a few years, but time wouldn't allow. We had a brief shutdown here which gave us some free time, so we went for it. We kinda made the best of it. Here we are almost 2 years later still going and growing.

Where can listeners find your podcasts?

The Steve & Crypto Show is available on most of the major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Stitcher and a handful of others. The main place to listen is at https://anchor.fm/steveandcryptoshow

We also started uploading past episodes to our new YouTube Channel, where were also doing videos (though I'm still learning that process).

We will also be posting Patreon exclusive episodes and conversation along with videos and photos and the such on our Patreon page too. If interested were at www.patreon.com/stevecrypto

Oh... I can't forget that the episodes are available to stream at www.thestevestrout.com within a day or 2 of initial release as well.

Anything you'd like to include?

"I'd just like to thank you for the time! Thank everyone who has listened and in advance, thanks potential listeners... Much respect to Standish for taking the time to interview me about our little ol' podcast. Keep doing what you do, my friend!"
